Expectations and Class Meetings

In taking this class, we enter a contract to treat each other with professional respect.  This means arriving to class on time, staying attentive and quiet, and turning in assignments by their due dates.  You can expect the course to follow the format and schedule provided in this syllabus.  You will be notified of any changes in advance.  If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to talk to the instructor.

Our class meetings will generally consist of lectures, small-group discussions, short assignments, and sections of videos.  I encourage questions and comments during class lecture.  If you are confused about something, chances are someone else in the class is too, so don’t be shy about asking questions.

Finally, as members of the University of Hawai‘i academic community, we must uphold certain standards of conduct.  The code of conduct (www.hawaii.edu/student/conduct/) provides conduct guidelines, as well as rights and responsibilities of students.  Please familiarize yourself with this code, including Part I, section H, “Academic Dishonesty.”  Plagiarism and cheating will absolutely not be tolerated and may result in a failing grade as described in Part III, section E.
