Grading

Examinations will be
during class meetings and may include multiple-choice, fill-in-the-blank, defining
terms, and short-answer essay questions.
Study guides will be distributed before exams. Makeup exams may only be allowed without a
penalty in cases of documented emergency.
Weekly assignments
will consist of at least one page of notes and one written paragraph. All weekly assignments must be completed on
computer!
Attendance means
coming to class, paying attention, contributing to discussions or group
assignments. You get one “free”
absence. After that, each one will count
against you unless you can provide a documented excuse. You will have to earn your attendance point each day.
Lab assignments will
involve hands-on work with hominid and other primate fossils. We will also examine human artifacts as we
study archaeological techniques. Lab
assignments will include a written portion due within one week of the in-class
lab. Students must attend and complete
all three in-class labs during the semester to receive credit; the labs cannot
be re-scheduled.
Assignments are due at 2:45pm on the specified date. Any assignment submitted late will receive a
maximum of half of the original points possible!!!
Letter grades will be assigned
based on the following scale of total possible points:
99-100%
= A+ 87-89% = B+ 77-79% = C+ 67-69% = D+
93-98%
= A 83-86% = B 73-76% = C 63-66% = D
90-92%
= A- 80-82% = B- 70-72% = C- 60-62% = D-
Any score below a 60% (180 total points) constitutes a
failing grade for this course.
Incomplete grades will be offered only under extreme circumstances.
